oh man i felt the same way about the mom at the end of the first episode…i was like it’s pretty good and then that happened.
but i did still like what’s it doing and the fact that it’s being pretty original compared to the rest of TV at the moment. they came up with a very good reason for them to be filming all the time. and i liked that the boat was equipped with all the cameras too! I didn’t get to watch the second episode with the dolls yet. I didn’t mind that it was going so fast..i do feel like they didn’t fully explain what the creature was in the first one – so it was the ghost of the crew member that died?? i was confused.
oh one more thing…when ever they showed the ghost/demon – all i thought was – SMOKE MONSTER!!!!!! ahha they also had a very similiar line to charlies in LOST when he says “where are we?”
I really liked it! And I really thought that I wouldn’t like it. The main character is ugly and has an un-identifyable accent, which bothers me. The mother was also annoying. But overall – I can’t wait to see next week!
Off Topic – you watched Death Valley??? i loved that show – the special effects were really good and it was actually really funny. do you know if it’s coming back? I’m guessing not.
Yes, the demon thing was basically the smoke monster, only less ominous. The ratings were pretty horrible, so don’t get too invested. It did worse than Charlie’s Angels and that was cancelled in like five minutes.
And yea I really don’t know what it was exactly. The spanish girl said something like it was this demon with the souls of the dead trapped in it. So the wife automatically assumes she can talk to it. Lol.
Yes, Death Valley was great. Surprisingly hilarious for MTV. Also Awkward. I’m not sure if it’s coming back. It really should. We prob won’t know for a while since it aired from Sept to Dec. So if it comes back it wouldn’t be until Sept. If MTV knows what’s good for them, they’ll renew it.
This show was absolutely dreadful. I wanted it to be another Awkward, but it certainly wasn’t.
i hope it comes back, though i read the kristin girl is doing a bunch of other things now. you know i never watched awkward…i’ve heard good things, maybe i’ll try and catch up. i know the main girl was in AHS as the cheerleader in the Halloween episodes.
Don’t go. First you will see 20 minutes of other bad movies previewed. They figure hey if you were stupid enough to watch this one. Then it is 1 Hr 38 minutes of Wanderlust boredom. The Highlight scene JA dropping her robe is so Blurred you can barely see her face. The movie is weaker than the Producer Wain who let the topless scene be deathfully blurred when JA took advantage of his spinelessness.
Albert Einstein: “More and more I come to value charity and love of one’s fellow being above everything else… All our lauded technological progress–our very civilization–is like the axe in the hand of the pathological criminal.”
Tried too hard to copy Desperate Housewives. The scene where Bibb looks under the table to find out they were gay copied from Teri Hatcher finiding out Eva Longoria was dating her teen gardener.BIbb was the weakest link but the show could be good. Too early to judge.
Project X was totally awesome. You crazy.
Not sure if it’s a success, but to give up on it after the pilot episode isn’t fair. These days pilot episodes are nothing but set up, so I feel like it’s only right to give it another few episodes (assuming it lasts that long, although ABC seems to be heavily promoting it.)
Do it for Annie Potts. (Because, really, when has she NOT been terrific?)
I watched GCB out of curiosity, even though the reviews were horrendous. Frankly, I love the cast but I found myself cringing while watching the caricatured characters. None were believable. This show might have worked 20 years ago but not in the current era. I won’t be watching.
Jessica Sanchez is my bet. Wish she will win it all the way!
This show sucked. I’m not watching again. Its problem is that it tried entirely too hard. I’m not religious at all, but it seems like just a way to make religious people look stupid.
This movie would have been better if the lead actors were switched around to John Hamm and Kristin Wiig, then move Adam Scott and Jennifer over to the boring divorced couple. I’m sorry but I did not buy Adam Scott as a playboy who used the word “doll” everytime he talked to his BFF. And Jennifer is not a movie star. I can tell she really wants to be one, but she is much better off as a supporting actress and not in the lead. The whole movie felt like a dated 90’s indie film. I was hoping for more with the overall great cast in the film, but que sera. It’s a renter folks.
You are out of your mind. This movie sucked hardcore.
The John Carter on Mars series was one of my favs in school – really well written and very creative – I wonder why it took so long for them to be made into movie(s)? too bad this bombed.
Really spent more than two hours just by seeing it in 3-D and it’s really tiresome for an not so epic adventure flick. I give John Carter an C+.
I rarely drop responses, however i did some searching and wound up here Like Crazy. And I do have a couple of questions for you if you tend not to mind. Is it just me or does it look as if like a few of the remarks appear like coming from brain dead people?

While the actor is a little young to be a cavalry captain, I think he did a remarkable job. I have never seen him in anything before this, so I was not prejudiced, by other inferior roles he may have had. The comedic elements they added ( the book has no comedy whatsoever), were great. Woola, the dog-monster, is both funny and endearing. The adaption is done in the best way possible. example: Deja Thoris in the book is a princess with all it entails. She hides behind Carter for most of the book, and is not the scientist she is in the movie. The screen writers, know that modern audiences want a little more from their heroins, and gave it too us. Also, Mark Strong should be the villain in every movie. This movie has action, romance, drama, and a good dose of comedy.
Pan Am – Sadly agreed, and that pisses me off because I really felt the show could have gone somewhere. They were really gunning for that “era when women were getting their independent self together” feel, got a few episodes in, and then lost the map of where the show should go, leaving them to write every script at the last second. I really liked that it took place in a work setting where you saw behind the scenes into their personal interactions outside of a police station or hospital.
Suburgatory – I think you need to give this one another chance and look at it in a different way. It’s a juxtaposition of the insanity you’d notice if you spent your life in a loud city learning to ignore everything to be dropped in a place where the only thing to do is pay attention to every detail. It’s not Pittston, nor do either of us even have a real grasp on the possibilities of a rich suburbia that exists outside of a real city. What’s even nicer is that it does give a crack in the mouth to whiny white girl syndrome every once and a while. The main character is not always right. HOWEVER, this is now the second show where Allie Grant is playing the abused and pudgy kid who is trying to overcome the harsh judgement of her idiot mother. She needs new representation because whoever is getting her into these roles is slowly causing me to hate someone who was born in 1994.
Happy Endings, New Girl, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Up All Night, The Middle (meh), & Community (assuming, bc I don’t watch it but hear people praise it) – the renaissance of the sitcom. All of these have high production quality, various settings which play more true to the minds eye, and are written with attention to wit over shitty puns. Look at the sitcoms you suggested to cancel. All traditional sitcom set ups where you see the characters in the same 5 rooms for 10 years. The change has been made, starting with 30 Rock, and will clearly be preferred for a while. Which makes me wonder how and why they keep green lighting shit where the family watching TV means they stare blindly at the 4th wall.
Revenege – we know how we both feel about this. *points hidden whale camera at you*
Mobbed – agreed and I’ve never even seen an episode. I can’t believe people keep hiring Howie Mandel. More so, I don’t think I can take anymore interviews with him where he won’t touch things and people make a spectacle of it.
Alcatraz – I can’t say I agree here AND I watch it every week. Why do I watch it every week but still think it should be canceled? I’d like to just give up on hoping it will get better. It’s a procedural with the allusion of sci fi thrown in. It’s not progressing at all and when you’re most interesting character gets killed or locked up potentially never to be revisited again (the returning prisoners) you need to do something because the reoccurring cast members simply suck. They made a show vaguely like Lost and kept all of their viewers suggestions in mind. Which sadly makes it another buddy cop drama except this one features an ageless Indian doctor in a coma for about 3 episodes too long now.
Napoleon Dynamite – someone should go to hell for this being made.
Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, The Simpsons, and Bob’s Burgers – Shit needs to be canceled here because as you’ve said for Napoleon Dynamite, there has to be a better pool to pick from. I say, keep The Cleveland Show – Nix Family Guy & American Dad. They’re beyond tired and when they are filling a 4-5 minute portion of a 19-21 minute episode with a musical clip from 1974, they should just be automatically canceled. The Simpsons can just stay on forever, I don’t care, it’s reliable to stare at. I like Bob’s Burgers. It’s not trying to shock me with timely pop culture
references and being the cartoon equivalent of TMZ.
SNL – They’ll never cancel it, but I want them to hint at it, just to freak everyone out for a week.
Megan Mullaly – somebody better find something decent to do with her soon because it’s sad that her best work recently has been comprised of cameos and fake butter commercials. She can do ridiculous characters, but it’s like everyone stopped challenging her.
Completely agree with this review. There definitely was something for everyone. I haven’t seen a movie in such a long time that really has all different types of comedy in it. This was one of the biggest surprises I’ve seen in a while.
Reading your best records list of 2011 REALLY does not qualify you to judge ANY musician, singer, bird or even sound EVER. Buy some Q-tips and a pop culture encyclopedia. Kelly Clarkson ? Really ?
I actually completely agree with this review. I’m a huge Madonna fan and have been my entire life. (I’m 37) But does she really think any of these songs are as good as her classics (Like A Prayer, Express Yourself). She can’t seem to make great music like she used to. And I actually appreciate such an honest review. And to Hello Sucker, what’s wrong with Kelly Clarkson? That woman is massively talented and that record is great. Did you even read the REST of the list? I’d say most of the artists are pretty credible, with the exception of maybe Diddy, but even that CD was pretty good. And a pop culture encyclopedia? What are you talking about? Have you browsed this website at all. 1, the writers clearly know enough about pop culture and 2, at the end of the day, it’s just one person’s opinion.
I am loving gang bang and turn up the radio0o… some girls is good too! Album has leaked in full btw
While I appreciate that this is your opinion. I hate to have to disagree with the many things you said. For one, Gaga’s Born This Way felt like it was bloody trying too hard, all the fun felt sucked out of it as a result. It’s an album I never go back to and I’m not tempted to go back to listen to on anyday. MDNA, whilst going for a similar gritty sound (Gang Bang), or electronica dance songs (I’m Addicted) or the big anthem (Turn Up The Music), feels careless and ridiculous but in a good way. It’s so effortless that it conserves all the fun factor. Clearly the woman isn’t taking herself seriously, she’s just out there doing what she wants and she doesn’t care what you think and isn’t trying to hide any political agenda or that sort of nonsense at all. This is FUN at it’s silliest best.
@Fan, I’m not sure I agree completely with the idea that this record is supposed to just be fun and silly. If that were the case, why are there songs like Masterpiece and I Fucked Up and Beautiful Killer? Those songs are sort of personal and not really fun at all. I’m not saying I agree completely with this review, but the writer definitely has a solid point and certainly saying things about Madonna and Gaga that nobody seems to want to say. This album tries entirely too hard and almost every track sounds like it comes from the Real Housewives/Kim Kardashian school of song. I think your comment sort of proves the point the writer makes in the beginning, that if this were any other artist, people would hate it and laugh at it. I like the record, but I definitely can see why someone wouldn’t.
Not sure I agree.
@Jello, I agree, she kinda gets away with it just because she is Madonna. I will admit to having overlooked the ballads and mid-tempo songs in my above evaluation
Hi, I just wanted to mention, you’re wrong. Your post doesn’t make any sense.
How is the writer “wrong?” It’s an opinion asshole. You don’t have to agree with the review but it doesn’t mean they’re wrong. I personally think this review is pretty accurate.
The movie was so disappointing! The shaky camera work was not the worst part, but certainly took away from the movie. I just read all three books again this week and had such high expectations for the movie. I thought I’d be seeing it several times over the weekend, it should have been that good. It just wasn’t. The relationship between Katniss and Peeta just wasn’t believable at all. The special effects weren’t there. What happened to the “mocking jays”??? A few pitiful whistles, no singing the songs back at all. They are what the book/movie was named after! The mutts weren’t anything like they should have been. I know with a movie adaptation, there are things that have to be taken out, but if they can’t get the special effects right in the first movie, how in the world are they going to get them right in books two and three with the Quarter Quell and the rebellion? I just don’t know how they’ll be believable when the special effects will be so much harder to get right for the next two movies. Gary Ross or whomever takes the helm of the next two need to go back…
Great series, I just bought complete trilogy and can’t wait for the movie. I’ll probably see it next week as it’ll likely take me a week to read them.
have we listened to the same album?!!!
MDNA is absolutely brilliant!!
From beginning to end………………….a fantastic album.
I admire her staying power but it’s unfortunate that despite her supposed spiritual development, she remains lacking in humility. She seems so desperate to hang on to some sort of image that we have all grown out of. Time she did too.
um…not really feeling it. their are a few songs that i enjoy because i like her hip hop and r and b side like “right by my side”. “roman reloaded” and “champion”. but three tracks out of 19 is not worth my money. this strategy of trying to please every one is smart if u can do it properly and she doesnt deliver to me. i think if u are a die hard pop fan u will be intrigued by these song but not i.and honestly, shes being a lil to hollywood these days mimicking all the big stars for fame. old nicki please call back:(
I actually enjoy the album! I like most of the songs mostly because yeah I’m a pop lover. I’m really am amazed at her versitility as an artist I didn’t think she could do it but she pulled it off. “Pound the alarm” “Young Forever” “Automatic” “Starships” “Whip it” are all great pop songs and “Bees in the trap” “Champion” “Hov Lane” are great hip hop songs. She’s already established herself in the industry and established her fan base she has nothing left to prove and this album proves that! Peoples hate for Nicking overshadows the actual quality of the music that she makes and as a music lover first I have to say I’m quite surprised at the awesomeness of this album!
Nicki Minaj has never claimed to be limited to hip-hop/rap and R&B music; she is an extremely versatile artist that can rap, sing, write, etc. Anyone who’s hating on Nicki for showing her more pop-influenced side, there is an equal amount of hip-hop on this album. Plus, it’s not like her debut album was close to all rap, and that seemed to be a success. I love Nicki as a rapper and a pop singer, and clearly the 1.7 million+ that bought “Super Bass” agree. If Nicki Minaj’s pop songs aren’t appealing to you, then don’t listen to them. She’s doing just fine without your help.
It’s good but it’s not an A. I’d go with a B+, A- at most.
Please, this album is not that good!
This ALBUM IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love her so much!
I’d give it an A-. It’s very dance driven on the second half than the hip-hop section of the first half. But there’s no stopping the 4 RedOne produced songs on songs 10 to 13! And I liked her songs with Rick Ross Cam’ron, Drake, Nas, Young Jeezy and Chris Brown. The two Lil’ Wayne offerings she did with him fell flat to me. It does tend to drag at times–some songs should have been placed somewhere else, but there are some very catchy numbers.
Nicki Minaj’s album is good, but did she have to use a staggering 23(!) or more producers to handle the 19 songs? I counted the producers while reading the credits on the album and it got to the point of excessive. She should have had RedOne do the whole album and left the others out. He had the best numbers in the 4 he did for her. As well as her Pink Friday Productions team that also handled several songs–their offerings were just as interesting and catchy too.
I really like this album! Personal favorites – HOV Lane and I Am Your Leader.
I’ve followed this site for a while and I think it’s clear that writer has an agenda when it comes to certain things. I’m not a huge Madonna fan, can take her or leave her, and I love Nicki Minaj, but the reviewer seems almost incapable of objectivity.
Anyone who read the MDNA review can tell he doesn’t like her, and using the album release simply to reinforce that opinion. Not all of them, but there are some great songs on the CD: Girl Gone Wild, Gang Band and I’m Addicted are brilliant, as is all of the slower stuff. The disc is a B. Madonna doesn’t need to complete with the women of music today. She opened the door for them. There’s a lot of ageism in your review of MDNA as well. I would be careful of that.
While I’ve always been on the fence about Madonna, I fucking love Nicki, but Her disc is a B as well. It’s all over the place, but since the writer likes Nicki, he chooses to like it because he wants to in his review. That’s not really reviewing. You’re just talking about the things you like and grading them to justify it.
I’m an almost 30 year old female that grew up on WB shows, so I am probably the target audience, but I liked the show. Obviously there is a lot that they can do to deepen the characters along the way, but I thought it was a good start. I’d love to see a block with this, Happy Endings, and Cougar Town all together. Make it happen ABC!
Loved her since she was on Veronica Mars, kept hoping eventually she’d find something i could watch… Here’s hoping it does well.
