Bones Season Finale

Bones Season Finale

Wait for it Hart Hanson, do you hear the rumble of the angry viewers who
are coming after you? I seriously was shock at this season finale, not
because it was completely crazy or a superbly written cliffhanger. I was
shocked at how indifferent I felt about the situation they were putting
the entire cast in. To tear the group apart for a year seems like a lazy
way to try to fix the problems between characters. Viewers, myself
included, were left scratching our heads trying to figure out what we had
just witnessed.

Recap: Basically this episode was the deterioration of the Jeffersonian
team, Booth and Sweets included (even though they are technically FBI).
Bones, who has been on rocky terms with Booth since the AWESOME 100th
episode, gets a position to head a research team in Indonesia with
Sweets’s fiance, Daisy. At first hesitant, she ultimately decides to leave
Booth and her life with him behind. Booth got recruited back into the army
to train soldiers. Hodgins and Angela decide they hate the situation too
and leave for Paris. Everything the show was built upon was basically
shattered and everyone jumped ship. With Bones gone, Booth decides to go
to Afghanistan. Daisy says she’s going to Indonesia whether Sweets comes
or not, they break up at the end of the episode. Hodgins and Angela say
that they rather leave Washington DC for a year rather than train a new
forensic anthropologist (Bones) and FBI agent (Booth). The last scene of
the episode takes place in the airport as everyone catches different
flights.

Pros: There were a couple scenes that were good. Cam telling Bones that
she was irreplaceable was a touching moment. Another moment was when Cam
told Bones it was nice working for her. Bones corrects her by saying that
Cam was actually in the position of higher power; of course we know (and
Cam knows) that Bones has always been in charge of the Jeffersonian.
Sweets trying to prove himself an adventurous man this episode was
hilarious, especially when he talked about it in his undersized
Jeffersonian get up. However, the highlight for me was when Sweets started
meowing on the top of the wall to distract the dogs chasing Hodgins. These
moments in the season finale where the only times I felt engaged to the
storyline which is truly disappointing.

Cons: I can’t believe how they ended this season with Booth and Bones. I’m
not saying that I was expecting them to get together and have a perfect
fairytale ending but the fact that it was SO underplayed the entire time
was just frustrating to watch. It has taken them 5 seasons to make the
minimal progress they have in their relationship and the season finale
felt like 5 steps backwards. They distance and cold exteriors from both
parties was infuriating. Usually when one is cold or stand-offish the
other partner compensates but feeling Booth and Bones pull away from each
other was just wrong. No cliffhanger, no kiss, no HUG? They ended the
season finale with a gripping HANDSHAKE! I don’t care how intense these
two actors can make their eyes look but we know they feel more for each
other than a handshake.

Bottom line: This was truly a disappointing season finale. Hart Hanson
stated that they will be returning in season 6 with everyone in the cast
back together at the end of their year apart. He says that this season
finale was suppposed to shake things up so things can change at the
beginning of next season. I don’t know if he shook things up as much as he
just let them fall apart but let’s hope he has something REALLY good up
his sleeve because I don’t think I have anymore patience with this show.
